Fr. Seraphim was born in 1971 in Houston Texas, with the given name Nitant Tex Majmudar. Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Concord, California (near Berkeley) where he received his early elementary and high school education.
Fr. Seraphim graduated from Ignacio Valley High School in 1989 and attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with a BA in Religious Studies in 1993. He later returned to UCSB, graduating with a Master’s in Education/California Teaching Credential in 1995.
In 1995, after receiving his M. Ed., he was hired to be a full time 3rd grade teacher at Ss Peter and Paul Academy. For the next 10 years he taught many subjects and grade levels depending on the needs of the school; he also taught Algebra and SAT preparation for the Santa Cruz City School District. There, he met Sophie Sethre, whom he married in 1997. They have three children: Brigid, John Basil, and Nicholas.
Fr. Seraphim was introduced to the Orthodox Church while a student in Santa Barbara and was baptized on Holy Saturday in 1993.
In 2000 Fr. Seraphim traveled to Jerusalem and was ordained a deacon on September 29, 2000 and a priest on September 30, 2000. He returned to the United States to serve the parishes under the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. In 2005 he received a full scholarship to St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania, graduating in 2008.
From there, the family moved to the island of Cyprus, living in the villages above Limassol, and served as chaplain to the Panagia Amasgous women’s monastery.
The Majmudars returned to the States in the fall of 2009, when he was assigned to St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Tacoma, WA, where Fr Seraphim is currently serving as proistamenos.
